You are Fan No.

This is Alex Hildebrand's Website dedicated to one of the world's leading soprano singers. It is absolutely non-commercial and unofficial. It is designed and maintained as a contribution to the large fan community of Edita Gruberova.

Sorry, hardly any updates, but this seems to be interesting for many fans of Edita Gruberova out there, so I will leave this website online. I am very busy with work, Ph.D. thesis and family! Also, I have to find my way around in the city of Berlin, Germany, where I now live. Yes, I heard Edita in the Deutsche Oper Berlin on 19 April 2002. A wonderful concert. Also, I heard her here in Berlin a couple of times as Lucia in May of 2005. Thanks, dear Edita Gruberova, for coming to Berlin.

Besides those performances I have been to the Komische Oper and to the Staatsoper unter den Linden. One gets to see very good performances there.

If you have any pictures of performances with Edita or pictures taken after performances that you took yourself and would them see on this website please [ E-mail me here ]! I would be happy to put more pictures up here.

Please leave a message in my [guestbook] before you leave - many Gruberova Fans have done so before.

3 Opera Quizzes

With the help of other fans I have created three opera quizzes for the entertainment of my visitors. You may either solve them on-line or download them to save on-line costs.

Linda di Chamounix
Here is a collection of pictures from the production of Donizetti's Linda in Vienna in 1997. Edita Gruberova's partner was Paul Groves.

SOS Kinderdorf Benefiz-Galakonzert
On September 15, 2000 Edita Gruberova gave a concert in Basel Switzerland, together with Yoshikazu Mera, Friedrich Haider and others. This signed picture is from the programme.

Playbill from "Die Fledermaus", Vienna State Opera, 1980
This was a gift from a friend who had studied at the time in Vienna. She had kept the playbill and gave it to me as a gift.
Edita Gruberova was Adele, Bernd Weikl was von Eisenstein and Lucia Popp was Rosalinde. The performance on January 20, 1980 was conducted by Theodor Guschlbauer. Otto Schenk had staged the piece.

Opera Gala in Basel, 5 January 2000
I was lucky enough to attend this concert. A three hour opera-highlights-marathon. The best and one of the most impressive concerts I have ever seen. A highlight for me: I had (a) a *free* ticket (b) I was sitting fourth row in the middle. Wonderful.

lucia playbill
Lucia di Lammermoor, Opera Zürich (CH), 19 December 1999
I attended this wonderful performance and got the playbill and the CD-Cover of my recording singed.

puritani playbill
I Puritani, Opera Zürich (CH), 5 December 1999
This was the third time I heard Edita Gruberova perform that role live. It seems to get better and better and more interesting, more overwhelming over the years. Since I find the dress she wears as Elvira in that staging so extraordinarily beautiful, I decided to put a picture from the opera magazine up here.

thumb ludwigsburg
Recital together with Vesselina Kasarova and Friedrich Haider at the Ludwigsburger Schlossfestspiele, 4 July 1999

I didn't attend that concert myself, but a good friend who had the chance to go had this programme signed for me. It has the signature of V. Kasarova and Edita Gruberova's signature together with the dedication "Für Alex" :-)

Programme
Antonin Dvoráck (1841-1904)
Klänge aus Mähren op. 32

Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy (1809-1847)
Gruss op. 63,3
Maiglöckchen und die Blümelein op. 63,6

Robert Schumann (1810-1856)
Sommerruh WoO 9
An den Abendstern op. 103,4
Johannes Brahms (1833-1897)
Die Meere op. 20,3
Die Schwestern op. 61,6 Gioachino Rossini (1792-1868)
La regata veneziana (Venezianische Regatta)
aus: Soirées musicales

Recital in Festspielhaus, Baden-Baden, 27 May 1999, Herbert von Karajan Pfingstfestspiele

After the performances Edita Gruberova signed Pictures and CDs. I was given a beautiful black and white picture that she uses for public relation issues and got it signed.

Read Reviews on this Recital (all in German) [here]. You will find out about the enchors, too.

This review website is to share impressions on the concert / recital / performance with other fans. Sorry, no english translations available.

I must say at this point, I am a *real" fan! I take out all the stuff from the reviews that either has been said thousands of times before ("perfect technique" etc.) or the things that simply are not correct ("thirty years of world career"). This also makes the reviews shorter and no one would read long ones anyways.

Programme
Songs by Franz Schubert (1797-1828)

  • Seligkeit
  • Lachen und Weinen
  • Liebhaber in alten Gestalten
  • Klärchens Lied
  • Suleika I
  • Gretchen am Spinnrade
  • Auf dem Wasser zu singen
  • Die Forelle
  • Rastlose Liebe
  • Der Hirt auf dem Felsen
Zigeunermelodien by Antonin Dvorác (1841-1904)

Bellini's I Puritani at Opera of Zürich (CH) - 21 November 1998

This performance was one of the best and most impressive opera performances I have ever seen. Edita Gruberova as Elvira was at her very best. After the performance the fans gathered once more, and this has become more or less of a cult to us, at the stage entrance to wait for Mrs. Gruberova to sign programms and CDs. Edita Gruberova signed the cover of a Opernglas magazine for me after the performance. It's my contribution to the fan community to share it in almost original size (Click on thumbnail). For picture thanks to [Opernglas]

For the book Divas... In their own words Miss Gruberova gave an interesting interview. More information on the author and the book, which will be published this year can be found [here].
